In a fresh wave of phishing scams, the FBI is sounding the alarm on fraudulent NFT airdrops targeting wallets on the Hedera Hashgraph network. Criminals are sending users free tokens or NFTs with embedded messages prompting them to visit phishing links. These links lead to malicious dApps or fake websites that harvest sensitive details like wallet passwords or seed phrases—ultimately allowing scammers to hijack and drain crypto wallets.

The scam leverages Hedera’s growing popularity and its unique hashgraph-based DLT, which offers faster and more efficient consensus than traditional blockchains. As adoption increases, so too does interest from cybercriminals. The FBI advises users to verify airdrops with official sources, never share credentials unless they initiate contact, and report suspicious activity to the IC3. Regular wallet monitoring is also key to staying protected in an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape.
