FIFA is tapping Avalanche to power its new blockchain-based platform aimed at reinventing fan engagement through NFTs and digital collectibles. Announced on May 22, the move brings FIFA Collect—its digital marketplace—onto Avalanche’s EVM-compatible, high-performance network. This shift is designed to support FIFA’s vast global fan base with faster, more scalable, and wallet-friendly blockchain experiences.
Modex CEO Francesco Abbate emphasized that Avalanche was chosen after a deep evaluation of speed, security, fees, and scalability. The transition also signals the end of support for Algorand wallets like Pera and Defly, as MetaMask and WalletConnect-compatible wallets become the new standard. With prior initiatives like the FIFA Rivals mobile game and the 2023 NFT launch under its belt, FIFA is positioning itself as a serious player in Web3 fan engagement—though details on future developments remain tightly under wraps.
